Comments: Thorny,
but irresistible best describes this low maintenance elfin barberry.
Perfect tiny narrow leaves are smothered in coral buds opening to
bright yellow-orange spring flowers. These, in turn, produce silver
frosted blue-black berries in the fall. 'Corallina Compacta' is
evergreen, tolerates most soil types, does well in exposed or
sheltered garden areas, is pest free and drought tolerant, once
established. Use in xeriscape plantings, containers, rock gardens, on
banks and slopes or as a carefree low hedge. Plant in a sunny spot
for best flower display. Attracts birds, bees and butterflies. Received 2004 Award of Garden Merit from
Royal Horticultural Society.
