Comments: Thorny, but irresistible best describes this low maintenance elfin barberry. Perfect tiny narrow leaves are smothered in coral buds opening to bright yellow-orange spring flowers. These, in turn, produce silver frosted blue-black berries in the fall. 'Corallina Compacta' is evergreen, tolerates most soil types, does well in exposed or sheltered garden areas, is pest free and drought tolerant, once established. Use in xeriscape plantings, containers, rock gardens, on banks and slopes or as a carefree low hedge. Plant in a sunny spot for best flower display. Attracts birds, bees and butterflies. Received 2004 Award of Garden Merit from Royal Horticultural Society.
