Rhododendron 'Mr. Carl'
Size: 9-12 inch
Growth Habit: medium (4 x 4 feet)
USDA Zone: 6b
Exposure: filtered to full sun
Growing Conditions: evenly moist, well drained acidic soils
Parentage: (The Honourable Jean Marie de Montague' x 'Babar')
Hybridizer: Player (2018)
Color Category: red
Bloom Time: May
Comments: A triploid with red flowers becoming lighter red in the throat. Carmine-red spotting on the dorsal lobes and ruffled edges topped off with long white anthers make this a show-stopper for any garden. Wide leaves are a dark green and attractive year-round. Proven to be heat tolerant in the southeast, though does best in shadier areas. Photo courtesy of Lonnie Player.
