Comments: One-inch, narrow, tubular flowers appear along the branches in between leaf clusters and can be brick red to scarlet-crimson, with distinctive protruding stamens and anthers. Leaves are puckery on top with sparse hairs on the edges. A casual observer might think this is a penstemon.
